 The Marketplace: HOMEMADE CONTACT MICS

Announcements

HOMEMADE CONTACT MICS

Hi there! My name is Liane and I'm an experimental musician and fine artist living in Vancouver, BC Canada. I've been making piezoelectric crystal contact mics that are way nicer than the ones I've been seeing offered on Ebay and elsewhere and I'd like to make them available to you! These mics are made with only NEW professional ingredients; which means
NO ELECTRICAL TAPE, NO BIG LUMPY BUMPS IN THE CABLE and NO EXPOSED SOLDER JOINTS OR INTERNAL WIRING.
I consider these things important! Electrical tape comes unglued and leaves a sticky mess! Exposed solder joints and wiring are signs of a flimsy mic that may break with one accidental yank on the cord. I don't want that, nobody wants that!

What are contact microphones good for? They're great when used as pickups for acoustic instruments that want to become electric instruments. They can be used as drum triggers for electronic drum modules. They can collect sounds that ordinary mics can't. Their uses are only limited to what you can get them to stick to. They sound amazing going into a guitar amp and just as amazing plugged straight into a minidisc recorder.

Take a listen: contact mics test audio

 The Marketplace: Voxengo Pristine Space VST 1.6 released

Audio ProcessingAleksey writes: A new version update is available for Pristine Space convolution reverb processor in PC VST plug-in format.

This update fixes an issue with 'zero latency' processing mode which previously was not working correctly in all situations.

Pristine Space is a 8-channel convolution processor. Each channel is independent of the others, making it possible to use Pristine Space in various surround configurations. It also allows the user to apply a `true stereo' kind of processing, where each stereo channel uses its own reverb impulse (requiring 4 convolution channels in total). Sound designers and the like may find Pristine Space's serial convolution processing feature (which allows one to process the sound with several impulses in sequence) useful.

Pristine Space features:

* Up to 8 convolution channels
* Loading of up to 8 impulse files
* Non-destructive impulse editing
* Linear-phase impulse equalizer
* Several latency options
* Comprehensive routing
* Serial convolution processing
* WAV and AIFF format support
* Multi-channel file support
* Built-in sample rate converter
* True zero-latency processing
* Search paths mechanism
* Factory presets
* "A-to-B" comparisons
* Support of all output sample rates
* Low quality mode for CPU cycles saving
* High convolution precision
* SSE/SSE2 and 3DNow! optimizations

Pristine Space is available for purchase on-line for USD 139.95. For more information please visit our website at http://www.voxengo.com

 The Marketplace: Voxengo Marquis Compressor

AnnouncementsVoxengo is most happy to present you a new universal compressor PC VST plug-in: Marquis. This compressor incorporates all digital signal processing advancements we have made so far. You may find a very smooth compression performance in this compressor coupled with a very harmonic-rich sound, both suitable for mixing and mastering.

Marquis features a unique signal level detector algorithm which creates a very open, punchy compressed sound with an impressive transient response. Beside this, Marquis compressor offers you a classic feedback (opto) compression mode switchable to a more common feed-forward compression. Both modes perform differently, but equally well.

While Marquis works fine with normal compression levels it works exceptionally well for brutal  "tape" drum compression. Program-dependent compression release stage can be controlled precisely via special  "contour" parameters this compressor possesses.

All these excellent features are backed up by a responsive and consistent graphical representation. You may visually control compression function, release contour, key signal filtering EQ curve, level detector, gain reduction and output signal meters.

We would like to focus your attention on a new level meter design we have implemented for Marquis. These level meters are built up from four RMS meters all tuned to different integration times. Such design allows you to evaluate dynamics of the signal and see the constant signal level together with transient signal peaks. Conventional level meters are unable to deliver such information which by itself is most useful when setting up dynamics processing.

Voxengo Marquis Compressor features:

* Variable knee design
* Harmonically enhanced sound
* Release contour controls
* Key signal filtering
* 4-level meters
*  "A-to-B" comparisons
* Factory presets
* Mono-to-Stereo, Stereo-to-Stereo processing
* All sample rates supported
* 64-bit internal precision
* Native assembler DSP code

Marquis Compressor is available for purchase now for the introductory price of USD 69.95 which will be effective for two weeks only. Demo version can be obtained on-line at the Voxengo website: http://www.voxengo.com

A new  "U" attack mode which offers steeper compressor attack stage, for more instant reaction, has been implemented.

It is now possible to disable side-chaining completely in audio hosts which do not fully support VST v2.3 functionality (hosts which do not support 4 channels on input).

Crunchessor features:

* Easy compressor tuning
* Valve warmness
* Coloration styles
* Fast and slow attack modes
* True side-chaining
* Side-chain signal filtering
* Gain reduction meter
* Factory presets
*  "A-to-B" comparisons

 The Marketplace: Media Supply Introduces Omni Tower SL-First Slot Load Duplicator to Record at 16

Press Releasesnancy writes: Media Supply, Inc., the nation’s largest wholesaler of premium quality CD and DVD recordable media, has added an advanced duplicating tower to its popular Omnitower line. Evolving from the original, low cost, 3 and 7 drive Omnitower duplicators, the new OmniTowerSL, features Premium Plextor PX-716 slot-load drives in a striking black case. Media Supply has also developed a Quick Start Guide and detailed Operating Manual specifically tailored to the OmniTowerSL.  Omnitowers, known for affordability, speed, accuracy and reliability, offer finely tuned firmware and software tested for compatibility and clean operation.

”This is cutting edge,” commented Frank Quinlisk, Media Supply Vice-President.   “The OmniTowerSL is the only slot load DVD tower available today with the mechanism to copy discs at a recording speed of 16x.  We developed this tower to bring innovative features and performance to our professional customers desiring ease of use, optimum recording speed and Plextor’s ‘Intelligent Recording’ features,” he said.

“Intelligent Recording” is a combination of technologies designed to achieve high-quality results when using media of varying quality:
  1. Intelligent Tilt™, a precise laser and three-dimensional tilt control to reduce jitter and achieve optimum recording
  2. PoweRec™, a write strategy that provides superior quality recording at maximum speed for certified media
  3. Autostrategy™, a feature that determines the standard deviation mark of any blank disc and then automatically optimizes the write strategy for the unknown media

What sets the OmniTowerSL apart?
•  A tray-less eject mechanism, which cuts normal media load times in half.
 Compatibility with 80mm (Mini Disc) Media, so there are no limits on what you can record.
•  High speed 16x DVD-R, 6x DVD±R Dual Layer and 48x CD-R, which eliminates the need for a separate CD tower.
•  IntelligentTilt™ which provides optimum recording for uneven disc surfaces. Designed for DL discs, it makes all recording better.
•  The Media Supply user-friendly OmniTowerSL user’s manual and quick-start guide, historically an Omnitower strong point.
•  Finely tuned firmware and software tested for compatibility and clean operation.

 The Marketplace: Deconvolver version 1.9 is now available for download

AnnouncementsAleksey writes: Updated Deconvolver version 1.9 is now available for download. Deconvolver is a standalone Windows application which allows audio engineers to recover impulse responses from previously recorded test tone sine sweeps by means of a highly precise deconvolution process.

This version has been totally reworked since the previous version release. The total rewrite allowed us to fix a range of various issues and improve the overall functionality: now Deconvolver supports multi-channel files; all created files now have a "dc" suffix added to them - this ensures that original files would not be overwritten during conversion. Version 1.9 also fixes problems with the "Reversed technique" mode that were available in the previous version.

Voxengo Deconvolver features:

* True FFT deconvolution
* Reversed test tone deconvolution technique
* Minimum-phase transform option
* Reads 8, 16, 24, 32, 64 bit PCM and IEEE WAV files
* Writes 8, 16, 24 PCM and 32 IEEE WAV files
* Multi-channel file support
* Batch support
* Built-in DC removal filter
* Built-in test tone generator
* Automatic stereo normalization
* 64-bit processing
* All sample rates supported

Voxengo Deconvolver is available on-line for USD 29.95. To get more information and to access the downloads please visit the Voxengo web site: http://www.voxengo.com/
