Cleva - The Game of Life Album |
| Cleva writes: Cleva's new album, The Game of Life, is 16 tracks of Hip Hop performed with uncompromising originality – the usual driving funk accompanied by subtle lyrics and original arrangements that draw on surprising musical styles.“I truly hate it when I hear people say Hip Hop is not music. That's what I want to change. I want people to have a musical experience either through the instrumentation or harmonies that they haven't had with Hip Hop before,” says the 26-year-old singer who composed, arranged, and produced the album as well. And it's not just the music that explores new territories; it's the lyrics as well – gritty yet positive, unflinching yet hopeful. “I was raised in neighborhoods that invested everything in gang violence. While that's true of most rappers, they rap their experience; I rap what I've learned from my experience.”Cleva began developing his gift in music at the early age of five years old, training in classical piano for three years before moving on to guitar. At 12, Cleva began developing as a lyricist, heavily influenced by Dr. Dre, Dj Quik, Tupac, Snoop Doggy Dogg, Tha Dogg Pound, Ant Banks, Notorious Big, and Outkast just to name a few.At 16, Cleva began to hang out in different studios and became a student in the art of production. He fell in love with composing tracks but realized that one of the weaknesses in the game was the lack of musical originality. So he refused to sample any compositions and decided to write everything himself. At 18 he returned to his musical roots with intense training for three years in jazz theory on both piano and guitar. There's a rare maturity found on The Game of Life. It's the maturity of an accomplished artist, yes, but also the maturity of a genre on its way to growing up.

Colin D'Cruz - live in concert |
| jazzgoa writes: Colin D'Cruz got into music as a bassplayer with resident bands at some of the finest hotels in India. Ten years of six nights a week gigs, laid the foundation for a long and chequered career that took him through just about every genre of music, collaborating with all kinds of musicians, on assignments all over the world. An open mind, open ears and 'best is yet to come' philosophy keeps him in tune with evolving sounds of music and widens his musical horizons on a continuous basis. Even though he performs different forms of music at any given point of time, he always finds himself at home with jazz-the most open, alive and evolving form of music. Spontaneous improvisation is the key to great jazz and very often some of the most magical moments in jazz are recorded in concert as opposed to clinical studio sessions. After almost three decades of live performance, Colin has produced an album compiled of jazz standards recorded at some of his most memorable gigs over the years. The CD may not have the slick sound of a studio production but it certainly has what he calls 'the real deal' live and straight from the heart. Slip in this CD, turn down the lights, turn up the volume, sit back and enjoy a live jazz concert wherever you are!
The CD is available online at www.jazzgoa.com

New York- Utopia Records’ Founder/CEO & President, Alfonzo Blackwell is a force to be reckoned with. 2006 will be a monumental year for him and Utopia Records. This year brings about the release of several new talented and original artists. Not only is he a record label owner; Alfonzo is a Top 10 Billboard charting saxophonist superstar/songwriter/
producer and is also gearing up for his latest CD “Never Let You Go” scheduled for release May 30th. He is also on the rise of a multi-media mogul with his new venture in becoming the Founder and Musical Director of two of the fastest growing independent internet radio stations of its kind-SoulfulSmoothJazz.com Radio and SoulfulClassics.com Radio. The stations are smooth jazz, chill, classic soul and R&B formats which deliver stellar musical content and so much more broadcasting live from NYC.
Alfonzo Blackwell, a native New Yorker and one of the most prolific young entrepreneurs within the music industry today has garnered a lot of success throughout his illustrious career. Alfonzo, first burst onto the contemporary jazz scene in 1995 with his debut CD titled, “Let’s Imagine” which was critically acclaimed and made him a breakout star. He has performed headlining shows for sold out audiences and opened up for artists such as Gladys Knight, The Whispers and Brian McKnight. Many musical legends and journalists have praised Alfonzo’s work throughout the years. As stated by legendary Grammy Award winning artist James Mtume, "The truth is needed to be told, just as this CD is needed to be heard.” Amsterdam News entertainment editor and syndicated columnist Vinette Price adds, "If we're lucky, once in a generation, a special individual comes along who engages, captivates and entertains us by blowing into an instrument. Lucky for us, this generation serves up Alfonzo Blackwell." Alfonzo also went on to compose themes for several movies which includes "Never Talk To Strangers" as well as television shows, also having co-written the theme song for the internationally successful television show, "Baywatch Nights". Alfonzo then founded Utopia Records in 1999 and garnered considerable praise and accolades for fostering a refreshing new platform for artists.
With all of his accomplishments, Alfonzo is also involved with and cares deeply for numerous non-profit and charitable organizations, including the Artist Empowerment Coalition (founded by L. Londell McMillan, Esq., and Prince) where he serves as a board member, the Rainbow House (a group home for infants with HIV), as well as various children's, minority and music-education programs. Alfonzo Blackwell is definitely a great legend in the making.

Press Release
Wichita Falls Records Announces new release by Frank Lee Sprague
Enter the CAVERN
Hollywood, December 7th 2005
“Authentic!” “Masterful!” “A celebration!”
Critics and fans raved over Frank Lee Sprague’s 2004 album, Merseybeat. Now, his highly anticipated sequel, Cavern, is available from Wichita Falls Records.
While Merseybeat often channeled the sunnier side of the mid-sixties British Invasion, Cavern pulls us into the tense, sweaty atmosphere of Liverpool’s famous beat club where a four- piece band captivates the audience with their electrifying brand of rock ‘n’ roll.
Cavern features thirteen all-new original Merseybeat songs, skillfully sung, played, arranged and produced by Frank Lee Sprague. The album leads off with an impressive 1-2-3 punch – the irresistibly catchy “You’ll Be Mine,” the soaring, harmony-filled, “She’s a Bad Memory,” and the classic, all-out ferocious rocker, “Give it All You Can,” a song and performance that would have made John Lennon proud. Other highlights abound. “She Lied” is the perfect single, combining an intense, passionate vocal with an absolutely mesmerizing arrangement and production.
The follow-up single might be “You Missed Out on Me,” a song that will surely propel the cellar dwellers to the dance floor. “I Believe” is a winsome, melodic ballad in the Paul McCartney mold, while “I Don’t Love Her Anymore” has the feel of John Lennon’s best work on Meet the Beatles. If Peter and Gordon had sat in with Buddy Holly, they might have come up with “Cavern,” the jaunty and delightful album closer. But the show isn’t over yet.
The band roars back with an encore, a crazed, rocked up version of Cleveland Crochet’s, “Sugar Bee.”
Known for his remarkable ability to synthesize authentic rock ‘n’ roll styles into his own West Texas imprint, Frank Lee Sprague’s work has wowed reviewers in Rolling Stone, Playboy, The Washington Post, The New Yorker, and many other magazines and newspapers. He has appeared on CBS nationwide television and National Public Radio, and has performed live around the world, including several successful tours of Japan. With two Merseybeat-style albums under his belt, he will perform live at the Cavern Club in Liverpool in spring 2006.
Cavern is yet another jewel in this outstanding musician’s career.
As Cavern Club host Bob Wooler would say,
“Remember all you cave dwellers, the Cavern is the best of cellars. We’ve got the hi-fi high and the lights down low, so here we go with the Frank Sprague show!”
