  1. SPL/MS Master - Nice addition

    by , 07-14-2010 at 11:50 AM
After scoring a great deal on Sonar, SPL/MS Master would be a very nice compliment to my software and gear.
There may be some that seem more in need of it than I, but tools like this are hard to come by, I believe everyone deserves a shot at it.
    Rock!

  2. Didn't win the prize, but Cakewalk won me! - Sonar 8.5

    by , 07-02-2010 at 09:12 AM
Coincidence or did BigTree get Cakewalk to walk the walk?

At the same time the Cakewalk - Sonar 8.5 blog contest was finishing up, I received a flyer in the mail from Cakewalk to Loyal Customers that have been handpicked (basically you've continually upgraded through the years)

I'm not one to share prices and numbers but I have to tell on this.

Since I missed one upgrade my new upgrade price was going to be $229. Not a huge deal in a better economy, but ...
  3. Back from the beach! The water was great, the music? ugh!

    by , 06-29-2010 at 12:25 PM
Spent a week at the beach and I must say a very much needed week away!
    The water was amazing!
    The weather was great!
    The food was filling!
    The skin was plenty!
The live music? Man, I couldn't wait to get back!
I was ready to cut my ears off and stuff them with soft shell crabs!

Of course when you go to one of the many common beach getaways on the east coast, there are many show houses and theaters off the beach line that have tremendous stage shows. ...
  4. Happy weekend! - auible mistakes left in masters

    by , 05-28-2010 at 05:05 PM
    Happy weekend everyone!
    Short and sweet here, BUT....
I'm listening to one of several Top 500 rock and roll countdowns this weekend. Lots of classics.
    I'm curious...

The classic rock and roll tracks weren't always perfect (or any of my tracks over the years!) when they were finished....mistakes and all went to the radio.

What song is most memorable to you for listening and you caught a mistake, on the radio?

    (not necessarily your own, ...

  5. Kindergarten Observations - What's a CD?

    by , 05-19-2010 at 09:17 AM
For the past 5 years I've volunteered time at a local public elemetary school to work with students of all ages.

Some of the most rewarding times are when I play guitar and sing with the kindergarten classes. Each year brings a different mix of young minds and personalities and each year they are eager to soak up whatever I throw at them.

The outgoing ones help the meek ones, the shy ones open up and sing, the medicated ones wake up and dance, even the autistic amaze ...
  6. Ok, When did mixer placement start producing feedback?!

    by , 05-11-2010 at 01:19 PM
I was going to add this to the Live Sound forum but it became a little long, so I decided to put it here.

I volunteered to play music at my kids' school and of course got roped into running sound. Since I was going to run sound I decided I would help setup. Nothing big, just a simple portable system. EUROPORT EPA900 . Since cables were short run, I decided to place the board in-between the speakers in order to allow everything to reach. Once I had my placement, the music teacher of ...

  7. Sound? No I don't know anything about sound ;)

    by , 05-08-2010 at 04:43 PM
    Short one here....
    It never fails.
I go to see one of my kids productions at school (elementary) and since I might know how to turn the board on, I get roped into either:
    A) Troubleshooting all the feedback from them setting up

    or

    B) Running sound

    Ugh! love my kids

  8. ADATs, please don't hurt me!

    by , 05-06-2010 at 10:35 AM
I was reading through a post by Michael Laskow where he is telling the story about splicing a 2 track tape in order to move the drums to the beginning and how scared he was.

Venturing into the unknown to learn something new.

    What a rush!

I remember having that same uncertaintity when I was first introduced to ADATs when they came out. A few years prior to my 'Everybody knows...your name' post, I remember going from splicing 1/4" tape to ...

  9. Do as I Do...not as I say!...?

    by , 05-04-2010 at 07:42 PM
Ok, not sure where I want to go with this, but it came to me tonight, a memory from my audio edu-ma-cation days!

I remember being 1st engineer on a project at a 7 week workshop.
It was right after we had a soldering class for cables and cords.

As I entered the control room I could tell by the smell that I was dealing with a band that liked to indulge in the finer s of the world.
Which was no problem, been there done that, so we set up and laid basic tracks ...

  10. Everybody knows...your name

    by , 05-03-2010 at 07:02 AM
After my initial post the other day I started laughing thinking about one of the first projects I worked on in a pro studio after college.

I was 2nd on the project. It consisted of recording a 50 piece accapella church choir. I set up everything and had it ready for them to arrive early evening. We shuttled them in and placed them on risers. The heat became an issue cause the A/C wasn't holding up. So naturally everyone was ready to just get through the session quickly. The owner of ...
