Ultra-Smooth Compression Made Affordable! Most compressor/gates provide less than musical compression, coupled with gating that swallows transients—or closes early, cutting off decay and reverb tails. The superb engineering in the 166XL ensures that both its compression and gating provide versatility and excellent sonic performance in situations where other compressor/gates typically produce undesirable processing artifacts.
When using the 166XL’s Attack and Release controls, artists and engineers will find that the center settings deliver classic dbx compression, while the full control range produces voicings that extend from slow “leveling” to aggressive “peak” limiting. The 166XL’s advanced gate circuitry uses a completely new, program-dependent timing algorithm to produce ultra-smooth release characteristics—even with complex signals, such as voice or reverb decays. dbx engineers went on to take advantage of the wide dynamic range and high precision of the dbx V1 VCA to design in an extra-wide threshold range and ensure top gating performance for each application.
Separate precision LED displays for gain reduction, compression threshold and gate threshold allow quick, accurate setup, while the 166XL’s intuitive operation lets users easily smooth uneven levels, add sustain to guitars, squash drums or tighten up mixes. In Stereo couple mode, the Channel 1 controls become Master controls, and Channel 2 follows precisely to ensure a rock solid stereo image—even with high amounts of compression, through True RMS Power Summing™. Professionals and newcomers alike will find that the 166XL sets up rapidly and musically the first time it is used, especially with the Auto attack and release function. Advanced applications are now easy, with the 166XL’s full sidechain functionality, and the ability to use either hard knee or OverEasyŽ compression algorithms. Add to this already impressive list of features the venerable PeakStop™ limiter, and you’ve got a strong finisher, every time.
The dbx 166XL processor is the result of an intensive engineering and product development effort aimed at taking advantage of the latest and best advances in manufacturing technology to deliver true dbx audio performance and reliability to our customers at the lowest possible cost. The 166XL puts a completely new level of compressor/gate performance within everyone’s reach.

DBX-234XL STEREO (2/3-WAY)/MONO (4-WAY) CROSSOVER: $200 SHIPPED
DBX-234XL-Front.jpg
DBX-234XL-Back.jpg
Every live sound tech knows that the secret to making speakers sound great lies in the crossover you use. What's truly excellent about the 234XL is that it gives you dbx's world-renowned build quality in a crossover that's perfect for a wide range of systems. A series of switches on the 234XL's back panel (safe from accidental reconfiguration) allows you to set your system in a stereo 2-way, a stereo 3-way, or a mono 4-way configuration.
There's another switch that lets you select mono summing for the subwoofer output, as well as a series of switches for selecting the crossover frequency ranges. Steep 24dB-per-octave filters keep frequency bands nice and tight, and you can also set the 234XL to cut frequencies below 40Hz to help keep your system from becoming boomy. A full set of front-panel LEDs gives you instant feedback, so you can easily check your configuration without having to get at the back of your rack.
The dbx 234XL Crossover is extremely well built and the controls are precise. Also, you won't find the external power supply that usually accompanies processors in this price range. A high-quality power supply is built into the unit. All the inputs and outputs are balanced XLR connectors that are screwed directly onto the chassis. This insures that even if someone steps on a cable plugged into the unit, it won't tear up the circuit board inside. It also features Linkwitz-Riley 24dB per octave filters, the professional standard.
FEATURES:
XLR differentially balanced ins and outs
Mode switches for mono 4-way or stereo 2-way/3-way operation
Low frequency summed subwoofer output
X10 range switch on both channels
40Hz high pass (low cut) filter on both channels
Phase reverse switch on all outputs
Individual level controls on all band outputs
24dB per octave Linkwitz-Riley filters
Stereo/mono status LEDs indicate the selected mode
Price drop on both items: $175 each (shipped)
