I have a pair of the later silver faced units. Some folks say they don't sound as good as the older black face units. But when I took a look at my buddies blackface LA 4's inside, there was no difference in any of the components between his and mine. Though there could have been other permutations of the silver faced units of later releases? I think mine were the earliest release of the silver faced units? There is certainly a difference between my blackface 1176 and my newer silver faced 1176's in internal componentry. The newer ones were transformer less inputs utilizing an IC chip as a differential input. The output transformer is a stock Jensen style output transformer without the tertiary winding in the feedback loop of the output amplifier of the older original release 1176's. And that's what makes those actually sound different. The blackface original release actually has a 600 ohm input and cannot be driven from the inserts of most modern day mixers. The IC chip input presents a 10,000 ohm input impedance instead of 600. And you have one less transformer to saturate. But heck, it doesn't sound too good when you overload the input of an IC chip either, even worse than the transformer input version.

You're getting rid of a couple of good Opto compressors. Are you sure you want to really sell them? I'd think twice about that if I were you unless you really need the cash.
