powered harbingers are awful. the worst sounding powered speakers i've ever encountered ... even worse than the tapco's i saw last week!

harbinger passive boxes though... phenomenal! very crisp and clean! their floor monitor is unbeatable!

damn. tapcos were the other ones i was looking at. really just need something decent with nice bass, at an affordable price. it'd be for dj'ing wedding receptions from time to time and whatnot

"Dissolve"? How about "burst into spontaneous combustion"?
Time and time again, the mantra is "Buy cheap, buy twice". Nothing with a stamped frame woof is going to deliver anything but grief when it comes to "serious low end". Those cheapass speakers don't hold up for crap, and they sound just as good as they taste...

Yah.

And what a lot of folks dont want to admit, is it all is about budget.

I know, I know....we all dont have the bigger budgets of the real pros....what a lot of you fail to realize, is this....IF this stuff worked really really well, ALL the majors would use it. Makes sense doesnt it? None of them would spend a dime more than they had to to get that great sound, reliablity, portability, and all those pro words you see on a rider.

Thats why you'll NEVER see any words ending in '...ger...' on any professional rider from any touring company.

I've 'sat in' on a couple of PA gigs in recent months and both of them had a B**^%$#$#@!er mixer.

What crap. My bands little Yamaha MG series blows them away in every aspect of live sound as well as build quality and price! We have a 16 channel and its 4 years now with gigs totalling 45 a year on average. A lot of two nighters in that ... Not a bad moment. We use an 8 channel onstage for the drum sub-mix. Again, no issues and plenty of EQ to get the kick and snare out in rooms lacking those frequencies.

Price em. They are the best bargain in the business.

I'm not going to run you down because you like Behringer. I have used the Behringers and I hear more than a little difference so they don't work for me.

Also, Mackie gear takes a beating whereas that was not my experience with the Behringer gear. Neither is my first choice but if I'm paid to run a rig I make the best of it.

Again though, YMMV. No two pair of ears are the same. At the end of the day, I'm glad you are psyched up about your rig.

hey now dont get me wrong, i dont use any behringer junk.

i use powered mackie speakers, xti amps on my passive boxes, mics like MD421s, Rode M1s, and Shure Beta mics.

the original poster wanted something cheap and reliable. i recommended something that fit the bill.

AND jack - since when did you do this shootout? i work at a pro audio shop and do the A/B 3+ times each week. i have trained ears and frankly, no one buys mackie when behringer junk sounds 85% as good, but 50% of the cost.

dont be a hater. there's product out there for everyone.

Behringer: sounds alright until it breaks 10 minutes after the warranty expires. I really don't think the audio quality of Behringer products is horrendous. Meh, but not horrendous. It's the construction quality that stinks.

I don't see the need to bash someone because they are excited about their rig that is a bit on the cheaper side. It's like telling someone who has a cheap guitar and amp how horrible their gear is instead of encouraging them to enjoy it.

dont be a hater.

I'm a Jarhead. I can't help it! In fairness I haven't listened to the B gear in several years but Uli hasn't changed at all in that time.

You hear the difference. The 50% of the cost translates into less reliability/durability in the long run. That has been my experience with that company 95% of the time.

Agreed. And ultimately I don't truly care. I'd rather just see folks buy once rather multiple times.
