I read that the original supplier of mic/line transformers for Neve, St Ives, was taken over by Carnhill Transformers

I believe Carnhill supplies Vintech with the transformers used in their Neve style series preamp. ;)

Yes, the transformers are made by Carnhill. You can find more info at Thomas Kristianssons site Vintagedesign.tk .I would like to say a big thank you to Thomas, he helped me alot.

It was a real pain for me to buy from Carnhill. Be careful when you buy from them because they will send you a qoutation for the number of transformers you buy. If you buy just an input and an output transformer you can pay almost three times as much per transformer then if you buy ten pairs. If you can buy more it will be cheaper.
Last week I solved the problem and bought ten in and ten output transformers for my Neve preamps.

Yes indeed Thomas' site has some great information including this transformer cross reference table...

Carnill (St. Ives) and Sowter Transformers

For the mic/line switch this Elma Rotary Switch appears to be a close equvalent.

Hey , whats the price on the 04-3-33 anyway? Does it come stuffed with resistors? Elma is about 5 miles from here.

Has anybody listened to the Cahill transformers yet?

The ELMA type04-3133 is a 24 step, three wafer switch and has no resistors. It costs aprox. 60 euros.

I listen to the Carnhill/St.Ives transformers everyday! My prototype has St.Ives on one channel and Sowter on the other. I did that so my customers can test and choose if they want more or less character. I like the St'Ives character very muuuuuch!

The Carnhill Group incorporates four other companies too and St.Ives Windings is one of them. There use to be written "manufacturing site 1" (St.Ives) on my order acknowledgement from Carnhill!
