I've been wanting for a while now to try and build some 2520 opamps. I was wondering if anyone here has tried to make one or has unpotted one to get the component layout. I thought I ran into a post about just this, but not sure. It may have been a t4 panel.

I'd like to get the schematic and attempt to build my own. I can't get enough of the API 312's and want to try and build some 525's and some 550's, compressors and eqs.

Yes there have been a few attempts but nothing that we can bring to you. Just not practical yet.

I think a DIY unit that uses a purchased pot is the go.

Whether it is an API or one of the other 990 sort of things like the JLM990 is up to you.

yeah that's a plug for Joe.

I hope we will soon have a project specifically for the JLM990 as a Mic-pre very soon.

I probably sound like a total beginner (well i AM a total beginner :D ) but wouldn't it be possible to do the Opamp on a separate pcb and take some wires to include it in the original circuit ?
OK if you want to do a 8-10 channel version it will probably have no space for a additional pcb but with lets say a 2 channel version there should be enough space in the case for a small opamp pcb. I guess i am missing something but oh well i am always happy to learn more

Hi, Kev. What is the "DYI unit" you speak of? I'm preparing to build a Jensen type pre using a 990 and/or clones. Do have any links for more info on this?
