The SSL compressor is a popular choice in that genre. Speaking for myself, having built several; I'd have to charge you more than what SSL or Alan Smart charges simply because they're tooled up for the job and I'm not. If you aren't a DIY'er, just buy one retail.

Well i just looked around and the original SSL sells for $3200 and the Alan Smart for $2500.

I just finished the Gyraf SSL and all i have to do is to buy the rack case. After all i am guessing the part cost will be around 100-150 Euros. Since there are really only standard parts and no transformers used it really is quite cheap.
So i really don't know how to come anywhere near those commercial products with charging for work time.

Andreas if i were you i would "bite the pain" and start building yourself a version. It's not too long ago i started myself to get into the DIY stuff and i did 1 mic preamp, 1 1176 clone and now the Gyraf SSL. And the tube mic preamp G9, the Gyraf pultec clone and a Neve 1290 copy is on it's way.
I am still a beginner but there are so many helpfull people here with much experience.
It's really worth to build your own stuff.

    Hi Andreas.

Let me tell you that's a wise descision. You won't regret it. It's work, sure but very rewarding.
As for the PCB: Well i could make you one but i don't do PCB's in the next few weeks so you would have to wait some time. When i run my next batch of PCB's there isn't a problem doing a additional SSL board for you.
If it's ok with you to wait a bit (really can't tell you how long) i can help you out. But maybe you find someone who can make you one faster. If not ask me in some weeks.

    I don't think so.

Some weeks ago I asked him to keep me "in the loop" for any surplus pcb's, but haven't heard anything, so I presume they all sold.......if they didn't I hope he reads this and let's me know. :D

Also the Swedish Chef is working on possible distribution of PCB's. There's plenty of trouble with the manufacturer for the time being though..

    Thumbs up

    Hi
Theres a little pcb manufacturing firm up here in Cheshire u.k. who i spoke to in person a few weeks ago and he said he didn't mind doing one offs or short runs. If anyone's stuck i can put you in touch, prices didn't seem too bad and the guy seemed quite genuine and eager. I haven't actually had anything done at the firm yet, but he'd got all the pro gear for the job.
