    Post

    Hello,

I hope it's okay to post this in this forum.

I have a scratchy Vox pedal that I would like to fix. I think it might be as simple as to change the pot. I've never done any repair on any pedal before though. What do you guys think?

    Thanks,

You might try cleaning the pot with DeOxIt D5 and just work it. I just fixed a buddy's Ernie Ball volume pedal that was intermittent and scratchy. I just touched the solder points with a hot gun and then cleaned the pot as above, and it now works perfectly.

Of course, it could be a bad pot as well.

    Just a thought,

Sometimes great sound is simply the result of an honest mistake.

It is almost deffinetly a dirty pot, but the VOX wahs that I have seen the insides of have a seeled pot. So unless you want to dismantle the pot, cleaning is not very likely. You can get replacement wah pots uite a few palces, they tend to cost around $25 US. If you do not want to spend that much you can try random pots of the right value and see if you can find one with a decent response. Just do a search for "Vox wah replacement pot" and you should come up with quite a few places selling them. You can also try VOX directly or any music stores that like to sell guitar stuff and have a repair department. Very often you can get them there.

i think the pot has to be drilled for a drift pin.
it holds the gear in place

they had a box full of those guys at the surplus for a buck a poece but somebody snagged them.
    had the gear included.
Mike Fuller would be my choice.
