I was wondering what people here think of these cables v. alternatives.

Klaus Heine highly recommends the Neumann and Gotham cables according to some of his posts I've read elsewhere. They seem to be very good when difficult or unusual noise problems occur. I was having noise problems with a U87, and while I have found a solution, I've discovered a very strange pulsating magnetic field in the room I use to record. All of my mics pick it up, although it is almost inaudible. While it's not causing an obvious problem, I can't help thinking it must be having a detrimental effect on the integrity of my mic signals.

The Neumann cables are expensive compared to those I have already, but cheaper than a lot of cables commonly in use. I don't think Gotham cables are available where I live.

Opinionswould be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi John,
I use Gotham cable for my Neumann M269 - N52 PSU, ordered it from Stephen Paul Audio and its worked out fine. It was a bit of a pain due to the fact its carrying voltages to the tube and audio back to the XLR and there wasnt a wiring diagram showing
all the connections.
Canare Star Quad is what all my cables are made of other than my tube mic cables.
An isolated ground may remedy problem noise. Any AC motors, lights, refrigerators etc... can add noise via the ground.
Hope this helps..

Hi Dean and thanks for your reply.

I've found a supplier for the Gotham cable, and was very surprised by how cheap it is. I would like to try Canare StarQuad as well.

I have an AT4060 and I'm not sure about the quality of the cable between it and the PSU, so I might do what you did. I have a cheap Oktava mic that I never use, and the quality of the cable to its power supply is unbelievably bad. Maybe a new cable will improve things.

I've re-arranged my wiring so that the AT-4060 PSU is used for grounding, and the difference is huge. I do however think that the ground isnt as clean as it should be, so I should take your advice and have a dedicated one.

Many thanks for your advice.
John
