I have a friend that owes me money for side work I did for him, he's an ex music engineer, he's pretty broke so he's willing to cut me deals on mint condition gear from his now closed down studio.
I'm in the market for a new interface and pre's, since my old setup has ran out of life.
Here's the deals he's working to hook me up with.
Focusrite Saffire 56 & Octopre MKII $750 for both of them
or I could buy his high-end setup which would be TWO Daking Mic Pre IV and a RME UFX all three pieces for $4800
I would have to save up money for 5 months to afford the more expensive setup but I could buy the cheaper setup today.
What should I do? Is it worth the price difference for the better gear? Will I really hear a BIG difference?
I'm not running a commercial business but I do record local bands and already have a great rep for making great sounding records for cheap, with my old budget setup.

Yes, I stand corrected, not so bad a deal now but I'm now thinking you might be better off with one Daking and no Focusrite Saffire 56 & Octopre MKII. But only you know how many different converters and pre-amps like this you need.

personally, the RME is a good thing and the pre's are going to be pretty nice. If I was going to spend $4800.00 on gear I don't think it would be on two different converters. I would also be looking at the Apollo now. That is going to be awesome.

How many tracks are you recording at once?

Yeah, If I go with the Daking Pre's I'd wouldn't get the Focusrite Saffire or Octopre, I'd get the RME UFX.

That sounds like a smart move.

Do you think the Apollo will be better sounding than the UFX? I know the features for the Apollo are awesome.

I'm debating ordering an Apollo as we speak ( for a mobile rig). Just made a call.

I wouldn't be inclined to use different converters like the ones you are debating buying for my setup. I would try and keep them the same or better. The [[url=http://[/URL]="http://www.rme-audi…"]RME[/]="http://www.rme-audi…"]RME[/] UFX will do 12 tracks for you are set!

The Apollo looks really cool but how many tracks will it do?
