Hi everybody,
I need to buy a very good preamp/compressor or complete
Channelstrip as Frontend into my DAW(Logic Pro, I need a good
A/D too). I heard the Manley VOXBOX with an U67 and it sounded
AMAZING! But there is more good stuff outside there, so I wanted
to ask you guys if you can share any experience with other
Preamps with me...

Thank you,

Skyman

The Manley Voxbox is indeed an awesome sounding box, but there are many choices and an all-in-one-box unit may not be the best choice or the best choice for you. Keep researching and you will find that there is a lot of great to choose from these days. keep in mind that having separate units may be better for the long term and is likely to be much more flexable is it's uses/applications. A search of the archives on this site will yield you plenty of info.

The Pendulum Audio Quartet is a stunning box (street $2,650), as is the Millennia Media SST (street - about the same). Pendulum Audio's long awaited Quartet II starts shipping next week (street price $4,250).

Thak you for your informations,
and, to mike: If my studio wasn´t in germany,
I would buy one of your Voxboxes!sorry...
I looked at the Pendulum and the Millennia STT,
I think the Voxbox is still on my list, but I´m more
flexible with the STT. So I think this will be my first
choice, more to come later...
I also liked the new SSL XLogic Preamp ...

So again thanks alot to all of you for your replies!

Having had both, I can say with no uncertainty that the Pendulum Audio "Quartet" is a far better sounding and more versatile unit than the Manley "VoxBox"... far better. This is something I should probably shut up about as the profit margin on the Manley stuff is way better than the profit margin on the Pendulum stuff... but the sonic performance warrants throwing some profit potential under the bus at the moment.

Manley makes several great products... the Massive Passive is pretty damn amazing, the SLAM! is an indispensible tool in my world... their El-Op is an excellent compressor... but IMNTLBFHO the VoxBox is a kind of a turd.

Whatever floats your boat is whatever floats your boat... and lord knows your results may vary from mine... but at the end of the day at least I'm going to feel like I may have helped you make a better decision for your facility.

Best of luck with the search.
