I didn't know what to think about it at first..
I mean, I paid 1k for a controller and 6 month later (under warranty) I should pay to keep up with new firmwares..

Of course they say it's shipping cost .. and I tend to believe it since getting something from china in 2 weeks is pretty fast.

Here's a video about that :

Thanks for that, Marco. I would say that $30 ( including shipping) is very good value for what you received.

As you mention, the thing that people may balk at is whether this should be counted as a warranty upgrade. To answer that question, you have to look at:
(1) is this upgrade (firmware download and overlay set) necessary in order to fix a problem or fault that was present in the original unit?
(2) does the upgrade give new features or functions?

If the answer to (1) is no, and to (2) is yes then I would say that it does not count as a repair under warranty, and having to pay a relatively small amount for it is justified.

I think you nailed it. Without the new firmware, the unit is fonctionnal.. They have tweaked a few things but nothing major ! ;)

I think it should be covered under warranty, or at least users who have a controller a year or less old.

That said shipping isn't always covered for RMA claims.

My gripe is $30 seems ridiculous for shipping. If that is what they are charging even for domestic shipments, thats borderline extortion. Those parts would be a couple bucks tops to ship. Those parts can't cost more than a couple bucks either, so where's the money go?

What about people who ordering a new controller but the seller has old stock still? Is that immediately adding 30$ and 2 week wait time?

I don't like this move by icon. I mean are we entering a time where hardware compatibility is now going to be an issue? Subscribe to keep your pre-amp compatible? lol.

Remember it's 30US to get from China to Canada... Shipping from China in Covid times makes the 2 weeks seems very fast for me.. I waited for month for other things.. ;)

Fair enough. I still don't like the precedent it sets tho. C'est la vie. Hope it works well for ya!
