I've had this mixer in my studio for a while but I never actually took the time to get it completely up and running. This is due to the fact that I have had the same problem in the past as I am having now.
A few certain sources when plugged into the Mic or Line inputs, will sound perfectly fine. However when I put different audio sources such as a laptop, desktop, TV, or iPod, the mixer produces a very poor quality output that makes the audio sound as if it were recorded in a hall, somewhat echoey, and as if the vocals and certain frequencies were "smothered". I have tried almost every setting and nothing seems to fix the problem, I have even tried all the inputs and outputs, nothing helps.
Anyone have any ideas as to what is going on? Thanks in advance.

I've tried the inputs on Channels 1-6, which have balanced XLR mic or 1/4" stereo line inputs using their respective cables. Although due to the variety of sources, short cables, and variety of inputs, I don't think that the impedance-balance is really the issue...

Yes I am coming out of the sources with a 1/8" stereo cable, which is then adapted to the single 1/4" line input, or with an adapter for the XLR. I have several of those cables you used in example, but I'm not sure where I would plug those into the mixer for multiple sources...

You are experiencing phasing and associated cancellation.
The 1/8" output from an Ipod, for instance, sends Left information out on the Tip of the connector, Right is on the Ring, and they share the shield (Sleeve).
When you plug directly out of it and straight into one XLR or 1/4" jack, you are combining both L and R information into one channel.
Left to Pin 2, Right to Pin 3, Shield to Pin 1.
With the Y cable (stereo Y, not a split Y - those split one signal into two identical signals) plug one into an open channel, the other into the next one in line (i.e. channels 1 and 2).
Pan one hard left, the other hard right.
