Having some problems with an SSL duende unit... :(
Just a probe here to anyone who may have gone through this, I'd appreciate any insight.

The Duende, when it works sounds great, no complaints there. It's just that in the two weeks I've had it it's worked once or twice before the problems resume. After loading just one instance of either the Bus Comp or Channel Strip the audio crackles on all channels...sometimes it just drops out completely.

My recording set up is simple...bunch o' mics, bunch o' preamps to a Fireface 800 attached via firewire 800 on Powermac G5 Dual 2.0 with 3 gigs of RAM using Logic Pro 7.1. No other powercore/firewire devices.

What's really interesting is the Logic CPU meter shows a 30% jump in usage with each plugin added...but the audio cuts out long before the CPUs max out.

I bought a separate PCI firewire card for the unit as recommended and no change. I've tried every possible combination of powering on/off the devices, closing and reopening Logic and the only thing that helps is putting the Duende on the main firewire bus and the Fireface on the firewire 400 pci card  ...but this only allows me to add two instances of either plugin before audio breakdown.

I will be in touch with SSL tech support but if someone here has an idea what could be wrong I'd love to hear it...

Cheers,

-M

Many, many people have been having problems with Duende.

You should joing this Duende FORUM here:

A few posts seem to indicate that upgrading to the latest Duende version solved some issues.

Good Luck and please, let us know what SSL tells you. I don't use that system but, it would be useful for others who do.
