ok i've got a Yamaha mg16/4 mixer with 10 solid state pre's. i can send out 8 channels individually to the motu, and i can mix a stereo pair out through the subgroup out. this is basically 10 channels taken care of.

i was wondering if there's a multi-channel (like 8 ) NICE pre-amp i can use in addition for a few more in's. the Yamaha is fine and clean, but is there something i can use for a few tracks that would further compliment perhaps a few tracks for rock music. (the MOTU does not have an ADAT in,, i'm looking for something with line outs if possible. any thoughts and suggestions are appreciated!

I also have a MOTU 24 I/O. I love that thing. I use 3 focusrite Octi Pre 8 channel preamps with it. They work great for rock. Each channel has a limiter/compressor feature that can be very useful. I do a lot of high school concert band recordings and they work very nicely for that too. I just run the line outs from the Octi Pres right into the 24 I/O converters.

ok,,, final decision.. my friend who is far deeper into this realm than I has suggested the PRESONUS DIGIMAX L8. it's $800.

here's the big decision that i need some experienced guys' help with...

PRESONUS DIGIMAX L8 - $800.00

or

FOCUSRITE OCTAPRE -$1,000.00
(this one has compressors/limiters for each channel)

i'm wondering if there's any compromise i might not be aware of here. the only difference i'm seeing is the compressors/limiters for $200.00 more on the FOCUSRITE.. but my friend swears by presonus preamps. so if anybody out there knows any difference between the two, besides the compressors,,, please let me know,, i value the shared knowledge on this board!!! :D
