Anyone out there advise the best way to make a hole for Female vocals in a mix with Guitars, and Piano being the other main mid range instruments that will clash. What is the best way of doing this and if cutting on the other instruments, what frequency and by how much..

Cheers

that's the difference between a good musical arraignment and a poor one. you shouldn't have to messing with that . one of the advantages of having the band all play together along with the vocalist is a good producer can be listening for conflicts in the music. guitars and keys all playing stuff that bury the vocals. guitars and keys playing in the same octaves. i hate it when three's 3 guitar players all playing the same chords in the same position. add a piano or organ playing in the same octave and you have a mess. if the melody is also in the same range, then you can have a real problem.

panning and eq is the best answer your going to get. boost the vocal in the mids a bit and reciprocal cuts in the instruments. pan keys and guitars to the hard left / right. you have the right idea. carve a hole in the middle for the vox. good luck

mmph! arrrrrrgh! suicideahhhhh!
