Yea, if you write audio on system HD you suppose to be screwed.
Read manuals, man. And, make sure you get an external HD with
7200 rpm, 2 FireWire slots, and fanless.

to generalize, but all people I know to use ProTools use an external FireWire drives as "write" volumes.
