Check out the Presonus Monitor Station. It's new and has some really great features that the Big Knob doesn't have (like adjustable Dim that kicks on when you talkback).

Do your mixes lack imaging (front to back the sounds have depth and position) ? Is there muddiness?

Get a pair of Neumann 184's. Acoustic guitar and OH. Strings, Piano's, Percsusson, all kinds of things really. They are liquid and manage to preserve detail without getting harsh.
