For classical, do NOT ever put a mic on the instrument... Just isn't going to sound good. Rather, a mic pair with a good low-end that isn't tuby is the way to go.

May be a bit ghetto, but I've used iTunes with great success for this. The initial setup is a lot of work bringing in titles, artists, etc... but all the music library is in it is a big database.

| Go 4 across on the orchestra using omnis or subcardiods. Low profile stands- DPA Grand Flamingo, Schoeps Colette, etc... will all work. Hang DPA 4061 mics around... There are lots of things I've do ... |

If you were using the same mics, one could build a central HV+heater supply. This would be a practical and elegant solution. Clean on stage or in the cloud, easy set-up and low hump factor.

The Shure A53 donut shockmount is a snug fit, but it does work relatively well. Also gives you a shockmount for a fraction of the price.

Yup... I either use the little screw on adapters to get to the 3/8" thread or Bogen/Manfroto makes a attachment that goes over the top of a light stand and ends in a 3/8" thread.

Keep it simple... When I've done percussion ensemble stuff, I'll go with a 3 point array across the front of the ensemble. Usually an ORTF pair with omni flanks.
