keep in mind that "Toa" is short for "toilet" in Swedish, and you will have some idea of the sound "quality"...

Are you planning on recording a jet engine?
If not, I wouldn't worry about max SPL for the 421...it can take it. One of the more rugged microphones out there.

You're on the right track...
Tweak with the attack time on the compressor; slow enough to let the "pick attack" through, fast enough to clamp down on the "body" of the guitar tone.
