You would like at least one HM-1 KEL if you ever get a female vocalist that has that painful peak at 2K in her voice. Really mellows them out and the annunciation is very nice.

| Never let digital zero be the limiter. Never never. If you want compression..do so with the compression or limiters..not using digital limits as the limiter. I can do a very loud file peaking at -5dB ... |

What are you considering to be a "normal CD"?
My feeling is that you are comparing to a CD that is way too loud to begin with. It is a piano..not a 90 piece orchestra or 4 double stack Marshalls.

Put a blanket over it?
No seriously, you are going to need to try various mic pres and some eq to warm it up more. I no longer have any U87's so I can't really be of help with what you need. |
