| Looks great! Very clean and I like the black on red look. It'll look and sound great once you have 16 around the room. Make sure you space them off the wall several inches for maximum low frequency ab ... |

| The title of the thread made me laugh. But hey, I'd love a nice tube mic as well. It just means spending a little more to get the same level of quality as a solid state mic. |

| I agree a nice ribbon would round things out. I don't have any experience with the fathead. How much are you willing to spend? I really want to try a Crowley & Tripp Naked Eye. I may pick up the c ... |

| Well I've had some time with the e906 now and I gotta say I like it on guitars a lot more than an SM57. It's a smoother, flatter sounding mic with (in my opinion) a more musical sound. The 3 way switc ... |

My gut feeling is that it's a placebo effect. Possibly because the computer works faster, you're less concerned and can devote more mental energy to just listening?
I could be wrong though. Perhaps ... |

I'm listening to a record with a high pass filter on 20 kHz right now. It's called silence.
I'm assuming you mean 20 Hz? |

| Boring, I know, but for less than $300 and without knowing the individual vocalist and the other equipment the obvious choice is a Shure SM58. If you start with that you'll alway have a good mic. It ... |

With a single mic, what you are probably experiencing is "room modes" and resonant frequencies.
You bring up a good point. This is a phasing issue as well, but it can only be solved with position ... |

| If there is a lot of screaming, my suggestion is actually not a condenser, it's the Shure SM7b. It's dry and in your face sounding and handles screaming well (and just about any other application as w ... |

| As far as I know, being "in" or "out" of phase can only be determined in relation to another source. You can still change the phase of a single mic, but it won't affect any phase relationship because ... |

You're going to have to be a lot more specific. What's a 'not too astounding price' to you? $1000 or less? $500 or less? $300 or less? $100 or less?
What kind of vocals (male/female, rock, metal/sc ... |

I also wouldn't expect to hear much difference in a van. It isn't until these things are well placed in a large open room that they should make a difference.
I should mention however, that right no ... |

Seems like a good price to me! $0.83 per 1" panel vs. $3 per 1" panel right?
The other day I paid $1.50 per 1" panel of Roxul Safe'n'Sound, which has the exact same NRC rating as AFB iirc. I think ... |
