| I was flipping through a Parts Express catalogue and looking at the tubes I dont see how the glass is formed around metallic components without completely evaporating them. |

consider that your DAW has an internal mixer and since you're only recording 1 track at a time, you really have no use for a mixer.
That money would be better spent on a GT Brick, so you have a swe ... |

use the line inputs that are below the mic inputs and you'll be fine.
2 pre's in series is generally speaking a bad idea. |

I dont use Cubase, so unless "mixdown" has a specific function inside that software all you want to do is render/export to some audio format so you can burn a cd.
