I am going to try to convince someone to take down his storage shelves. Maybe. Apparently he is emotionally attached to them, or rather, what is ON them. Which I understand. Not to mention the gross weight of the contents is probably 1000 pounds. Here is his proposed control room.
Very Happy ), bass trap as much as needed, and fiberglass around the front and ceiling above the mix position.
So the question is- how much difference will the storage area make on the uniformity of reflections back to the mix position? Will covering the angled wall with 703 improve the overall performance of the room, or just cause a dead spot in the reflections?

All input welcome!

Thanks.

What happens in the rear of the room is probably less important than in the front. Those shelves are not symmetrical, so perhaps you could improve that with diffusors. As you know, I like a mix of absorbent and reflective surfaces, so maybe diffusion around the area of the shelves would be better than right on the back wall? Or at least try diffusors and 703 in different places before mounting either of them permanently.

Ok. So the good news is the front of the room is in our total control. Nice. As for the rear...
I'm not sure what you mean by "diffusion around the area of the shelves". Do you mean on the angled wall? side wall? (?). Would moving the section of diffusors up to the edge of the angled wall make that much of a differnce (its only 20" total, 11-12 inches difference whn you factor in diffusor depth.)
Reflective/absorbtive is definitely the way to go. It will just be finding out which surface is best at what and how much (duh).

Jeff,

I meant around that general part of the room. You surely know more about diffusors than I do! One good thing about yours is you can move them around and try them different places before attaching them permanently.

Gotcha.

I was just making sure I understood your input.

Thanks Ethan.
