Hello Ethan,
I have a 2nd room which is unfortunately small
which I will be using for drums. The size is:
L=10.5 W=10.2 H=7'8" According to the mode
calculation software, the problems will lie
in the 125hz and lower Freq. range.
What are the pros/cons if any in using 2 Low
bass traps in each corner of the wall the bass drum will be pointing at opposed to a low/high bass trap combo. The traps will be 7ft 2in
in length.
also... what is your recomendation on trapping the room? I was thinking to do all 4 corners, 2 traps in each and a couple of 2x4 2inch 703 "clouds" hanging about 2 inches from the ceiling above the overhead mics. I may decide to use 4 more traps in the middle of each wall as well...would low traps be appropriate there as well? I have enough 2 inch auralex to fill anywhere in between as needed. The floor is pergo
(fake wood) with a 5x7 carpet under the drums.
A door and a 2x4 ft studio window are also in the room. Any advice you have will be wonderful. Any additional info I could give you to better your advise towards my acoustical situation will be posted following your comment.
Best Regards,
Nick :c: |

Hi Nick,

As I explain in the FAQ, the modes merely tell you where the room resonances are worst. You'll still have acoustic interference and standing waves at all low frequencies. So for best results you really need both types of traps.

Yes, the more the merrier.

Yup.

Same answer - you need both types of trap.

If the door is in a corner you could build a bass trap onto it.

I did read the FAQ, and want to thank you once again for the info you have provided.
This is what I thought would be your answer I just wanted to clarifiy.
Best Regards,
Nick |

Nick,

I didn't mean it to come out that way. Maybe I should clarify the FAQ!
