    Default Amp/Monitor $ allocations?

So if you had finite resources, say $1000-1500, would you:

    A) Spend most of it on a decent clean amp and then spend way less on 'okay' monitors.

    B) Spend all you could on great monitors and then just get an 'okay' amplifier to drive them.

    C) spend the dough on a set of active monitors.

i'm not necessarily looking for specific brand names, though feel free to include ones that might fit. I'm more interested in what direction I should head to get the biggest bang for the buck. I think I know which to pursue but I wanted to get some input.

    Cheers
    Keith

I'd spend $1,000 on some decent speakers and $500 on a used Bryston amplifier.

Thanks John. I'll check into that.

Next question, which might be all academic, so I won't start a new thread.

If one has two sets of monitors in front of him, and they have more or less the same response curve, and one set is $200, and the other is $1000, would they sound fairly similar, or is the response curve only a small part of the equasion and they'd likely sound vastly different?

What other features should one look for that make a great monitor?

    Thanks again guys
