    Default Studio construction in Austin

Hi! I'm going to be buying a house in the Austin area in the next couple of months. I plan on buying about 5 acres and building a recording studio on the property. The design is currently at about 1500 square feet and I'm on a VERY limited budget. It's going to be four rooms: control, main, iso x2, plus a sound lock with a wet bar and a bathroom... toilet and sink only.

Does anyone here know of a reputable constuction company in the Austin area that has experience building studios and knows the importance of isolation? I've had some bad experiences in the past so I'd like people who are used to this kind of work. I also don't want to pay an arm and a leg. Nothing fancy, just some double walls, seperated foundation and some properly installed windows and doors. I'll build and install the acoustic materials myself. Thanks in advance for any recommendations. ~Rufuss

Rufus, I may have a useful contact for you but I'm out of time and need to check with him before imposing; I'll get back to you in a few days... Steve

Rufuss, sorry but my email came back - apparently the guy I'd thought of has a different account.

I'm sort of wondering how you intend to get really competent studio construction help on a really tight budget; the two are pretty much mutually exclusive IMO.

Not only do people with experience in this area of construction charge more per hour, but they'd BETTER take more time doing things right or you won't be happy with the results; proper soundproofing is NOT an accident.

It would probably help if you were to be more specific about your proposed budget, so we might know whether you have even a slight chance of getting what you want for what you want to pay... Steve

I'm actually trying to make a budget by asking about this. To be honest I don't really have any clue how much this stuff costs so I'm just getting started now.

Well, let me put it this way. I'm going to build a studio of about 1500 sq. ft. A basic control room and tarcking room with two iso's and a wet bar/ bathroom.

I have a designer and drafter already paid for. I'll be buying a house with about 5 acres of land. My budget will be based on what it takes to get this done. At this point I have a large portion in cash. If I can get by on the cash I have that would be great, but if not I'll borrow some money. Basically by saying I'm on a tight budget, I'm just saying that I'm not going for anything extravegant. I'm not going to skimp on proper consruction, nor will I be shelling it out for antique fixtures and gold leaf wallpaper.

My goal: Fully functional "no frills" recording studio for making rock albums in the Austin area for the least amount of money. Once I figure out the best deal, I'll make sure I have the cash. I really just want to get in touch with some construction companies that have the experience and talk it over with them. If anyone on this forum knows of some people I should talk to that would be awsome. Thanks!
