...Full Compass? I just got a catalog from Full Compass (more gear porn! with an Audio Technica mic listed as a "closeout" for $399 each: the AT4047B.
I don't know much about this one, (it's an FET, LD side address mic, like the others in the 4000 line.) Anyone used these, and are they worth grabbing up a pair? |

It's a great mic! But $400 isn't that big of a bargain. They can be had for less elsewhere (ebay, etc.)
I would reach for one of these on jazz vocals, guitar, and even piano before many of the more expensive Neumann counterparts.

I have had wonderful results with an AT4047 on acoustic guitar, and even vocals. I was borrowing it from a friend, I would love to own one - or a pair. I, too have been curious about the Full Compass price, because they list it as the AT 4047B, and all the other references I have seen to new mics refer to the 4047/SV. Does anyone know the difference? Is the "B" an older model, hence the closeout? The 4047/SV models seem to go for around $550 including the $80 shockmount.

Maybe the "B" Stands for "BLACK", and the SV stands for "Silver"?
Also, it's not selling with the better shock mount. Might explain a few things. |

I have been told by an EBay retailer that the 4047B is exactly the same mic as a 4047SV but it ships without a shockmount - just the mic in a cardboard box.
No frills.
