Hi guys,

I have a big audio file (in mp3 format) which basically includes two different songs but combined/joined as one with a fading effect in-between. I would like to split the file as two separate mp3 files (i.e. two separate songs), but with keeping the crisp begining and ending sequence for the two songs. Is there any audio editor software which can let me do this, by (sort of) layering the two song sequences and then filtering them separately?

Thanks Smile

Protools ( or most any daw) can import the mp3's at which point you can put them in two different stereo tracks and process them as needed. Bear in mind you will be working with a file that has been severely degraded by the mp3 processs. While Protools creates a full bandwidth file from the mp3 it can be no better than the original mp3 and if you plan on adding EQ or anything you would be much better off working with the full bandwidth file the mp3 was made from.

Thanks for your reply. Is there any free DAW software available for this task? I guess ProTools is a commercial app.

Digidesign gives away Protools Free which runs without any hardware on Mac OS 9 or windows 98/Me and i believe it can import from an mp3. It will only output wave or aiff files though. A great intro to Protools and edit wise exactly the same as all Protools software, and will do up to 24 tracks depending on your machine.
www.digidesign.com choose "support" then "downloads"

Thanks for you reply. Unfortunately, ProTools free version doesn't support Windows XP (the OS I'm using right now). The downloads page says:

Pro Tools FREE for Windows 98 SE & Windows Me (will not run on Windows XP, 2000, or NT)
