Hi!

I hope you not get bored over my pipeorgan recordings. Wink

Here is a new recording i did last night, It's a 1000mm space between the microphones.
And distance from the organ is about 10 m, Recorded with gefell's 296 and Apogee's MiniMe.

It's recorded in Lulea cathedral.

Cheers

Like you I'm trying to learn how best to record pipe organ. So, take my remarks with a grain of salt. I'm not an expert... The instruments I have access to are not large romantic organs like the Grönlund instrument in Luleĺ. The churches aren't as large either...

To my taste your recording is a little bit diffuse, undefined. The instrument is clearly great. As is the recording, but not entirely to my taste... I suppose I'd try to get closer or higher or... Well, I don't exactly know how. It could be a matter of taste of course. I like to hear a bit more detail of the music. Seems, too that there is something about balance. Some voices are clearer than others. I suppose it has to do with how that particular instrument is built and how it radiates sound. An organ is more of an ensemble than an instrument. It's not a point source. It has width, depth and hight (and often sits inaccessibly high too). An ensamble of divisions and voices spread out in space. Some divisions are closer to your setup than others and so more accessible from the viewpoint of your mics.

I find your recordings very interesting and appreciate your contributions. I'd like to see both more detail about how you did the recordings (pictures? meassures?) and also wouldn't mind more input from those that have real knowledge and experience from recording large pipe organs.

The instrument?
