I'm sorry, but I'm definitely math challenged. I'm constructing an L-Shaped studio. The "long" section is 20x11. It has a vaulted ceiling (starting at 9 feet and going up to 13 feet.) The "small"section of the L is about 10x 10. I was planning on walling that off for a control room. Its ceiling isn't vaulted.
I have no vocal booth planned out. I'd like the live room to remain large enough for my 5 piece classic rock band (drum kit, 2 guitars, bass, vocalist.) It just seems like the Golden Ratio conflicts with my need for real space for the band.
Any thoughts about whether I should do something more unique than simply walling off the large room from the small room? Should I carve out a vocal booth to break up the parallel walls. |

I'd just leave it as one large room. I wouldn't even make a vocal booth. I hate vocal booths. They always sound boomy and boxy and small unless you treat them very thoroughly with absorption.

I think you're right about vocal booths. I'll keep giving it some thought. |
