Hi all,

I am looking for the flattest-response, most accurate pair of monitors that $1500-$2000 can buy. I've been eyeballing some Adams, but in this price range I don't know of any other brands and would appreciate your suggestions.

My Event TR8's are too hyped in the mid-highmid range, which causes me to instinctively compensate by raising the lows, which of course destroys the mix and makes it very hard to get a balanced mix out of these monitors. I discovered this problem after acoustically treating my room with bass traps and a ceiling cloud.

I could go with either active or passive, although if you suggest passive speakers, please also suggest an amp to go with them because I am not really familiar with good amps. Thanks.

Chris

use the search engine. Monitors are one of the most talked about subjects around here.

The flatest speakers I've heard in that price range are the Klein and Hummel 0110's. Just under $2000. Old lineage German broadcast/mastering speakers. Can't get better for the money there. ADAMs are GREAT speakers (I use a pair of S3A's next to my Klein and Hummell 0300D's in my main mix/mastering room), but they are admitedly anything but flat, especially through the midrange. That's the beauty of them, the ADAM's tell you when something is 'too much' and the Kleins tell you when something is 'just right'.

Thanks for the Klein & Hummel tip, Nathan. Knowing when it's "just right" is exactly what I'm going for here. Now, to search for a place that has them...

If I'm wrong, here, sorry Nathan... but I thought you deal in "Emes"? Maybe you have experience anyway..? Do you know of the Emes "Blacks", maybe with the suggested "Amber" sub??? Any comments yay or nay..?

I've always liked the "idea" of the "point source" design of the "Blacks", (The Thiel speakers, some Tannoy's I believe, have used the concept for years.), but I have never heard any of them when I could actually just "listen"......

Thankx,

Teddy G.

My criteria for searching for a great set of monitors would be very different. I wouldn't want "the flattest., most accurate" monitors ever made. Sure, having an accurate set of monitors is extremely important. But, the flattest set of monitors in one room will only be "the flattest" in that particular room and not others. The room plays an important part in the equation. Judging by your post it appears you already know this, both others reading this thread may not.

I personally would look for a set of monitors that I can get great mixes on... great mixes that translate to other monitors... In your price range, something like the Genelec 8040a's sound great and translate very well..
