Default Bass Traps & Broadband Absorbers

This is somewhat of a continuation from this topic:
    http://recording.org/ftopict-49853-.html

I've decided (in addition to possibly reorganizing the room) to build bass traps in each of the wall:wall and wall:ceiling corners.
They will be 24" front (OC703), framed w/ 2"x4"s and burlap.
I intend to throw the fiberglass roll behind the OC703 (corner is 15" deep after accounting for 2" panels).
Also, I plan to build 6 absorbers (2'x4') in a similar manner to the traps to place on the walls at major reflection points, and perhaps use 2 for ceiling clouds.

I can get the lumber and the cloth on the cheap, but getting the necessary panels of 703 (from online retailers) comes to over $500 w/ shipping. This is why I chose to do the 703 front / fiberglass roll for the bass traps instead of doing something like the superchunk method (solid 703 wedges stacked).

    So here are my questions:
    1. Does my use of treatments make sense?
    2. I intend to build relatively temporary/movable treatments that can removed and resized to fit another space. Does that make sense?
    3. How can I find a cheaper (local) source of 703? I've only found a couple of online retailers.

    Much thanks in advance.

    Side note:
Right now I'm deciding if I'm staying in the church or letting it go and building a space in the new house. That's the reason for the portability issues.
We're still shopping for houses, and I'm still deciding what I'll need to do (thanks to Rod's book) for my purposes.
Rest assured that when the time comes to build in the house (or improve the church), you'll know.

So there have been a few changes to my plans.

After talking w/ Dave Davis here in town, he has STRONGLY recommended going w/ Roxsul RS45 Rockwool RWA45 over the 703. Mainly for cost reasons. $50/bundle versus $75-$100 for the 703.

Also, the way the room is built makes building solid traps in the wall:wall corners nearest the doors almost impossible. At best, there's only 7" between the corner and the door.
I'm gonna need something that gives a little more.
For now, I'll stack some LERNDs in those corners (the rear door corner to the sanctuary also has steps leading up to the door, further complicating things).

Finally, w/ the two windows, two doors, and mic cabinet, there's not a lot of wall space for broadband absorbers. I'll place one each on the walls opposite the monitors, and the walls behind the monitors. That leaves two for clouds. Any suggestions on how high/low to hang them?

All of this is still waiting on a room re-arrangement. The only reasonable move I've come up w/ so far would be putting the mix desk on the back wall in front of the window.
Pending any suggestions, I'll get back as things develop.

Try this company... Speciality Products and Insulation, they have the best pricing on OC-703, Mineral Wool and all sorts of other products, including fire caulk, etc...

Don't worry too much about missing one of the wall/wall corners. Every room mode has an antinode in every corner (for a rectangular room). So not trapping in one of the corners is no worse than any of the others (e.g. the wall/floor corners). Have there been acoustic tests run on the Roxsul? I'm all for saving money, but I wouldn't do all the work of installing a product that wasn't tested just to save a couple hundred dollars.

    Good luck.

    Thanks for the tips fellas.

I'm not sure if there have been tests done - I think I recall seeing something on Bob Gold's site?
Just found it. Here it is:
    http://www.bobgolds.com/AbsorptionCoefficients.htm

Interestingly enough, the RWA45 is the only entry w/o coefficients.
Some of the better studios here in town use it extensively, according to Dave. Like Ultrasuede (used by their mastering engineer, Andrew ??) and Queen City Audio.
Dave also worked at Sound Images for awhile. Nicest place I've ever seen. Probably a million $+ just in building the space/acoustics (floating floors, diffusors/absorbers galore, all non-parallel surfaces, etc).

I'm still getting a bead on what the lumber will cost, so I'll research the Roxsul a little more in the meantime. As much as I respect DD as an engineer, I *would* like to have some numbers in front of me.
