I have been watching American Idol and I have noticed that there is some very very nive sound reinforcement going on there. I was wondering what they all use. If any one has some facts on it, let me know. |

I dunno but I caught a bit tonight and they were soaking those vocals in 1/4 note or so delay ... crazy in my books, but I guess to each his own. I just don't dig long delays on vox.

Well, so far the production is better than the previous years. There was a time when they didn't seem to used ANY processing (delay or 'verb) on the vocals, and there were big variations on mic gain, too. Last night one of the male singers had some sort of long delay in a spot where it sounded too gimmicky, but like audiovisceral said, to each his own.
At least there haven't been too many mistakes like mis-cued mutes during the group performances. And you know it can't be a cakewalk with all of those wireless mics moving around.
Now if they could just get rid of that grinning idiot, Sangina ... |

Actually, I'm rather disappointed in the mix of Idol this year. Last night, and other nights, the band was too loud. There have been nights where there was too much effects. I prefer to hear the contestants vocals dry - I'm judging their voices, not the FOH or broadcast mixers chops. Effects can bury a multitude of sins; even a crappy voice like mine can sound okay with enough processing.
Sanjaya won't disappear until the "older" folks out-vote the 8 - 13 year olds who think he is oh-so-cute. |

obviously no one knows on this forum, research it yourself, look on websites of major microphone manufactures they normally have news bulletins about microphones being featured on a television prodcast (AT on MTV),
It's all very high end junk none of can afford beyond that |
