hardware reverb

Hello everyone. In the coming months I'm going to have some money to buy some new toys. I'm thinking of perhaps possibly maybe ( Smile

) getting some good reverb going.

Right now the reverb capability I have is
Hard:
-Kurzweil Mangler
-Ensoniq DP4
Soft:
-Altiverb (this has too many options to be very useful to me though)
-UAD Dreamverb, Plate 140, RE-201
-Powercore Classicverb and Realverb Pro
-Audio Damage Reverence

As you can see I dont have anything spectacular in the reverb department, and I was browsing ebay yesterday and I see those Lexicon PCM's can be had for well under 1k used, and they are much more than that new.
But then I've always wanted an Eventide Orville or the H8000, but I would have to save for another year probably to afford that.

Do any of you have experience with Eventide reverbs?
Good, bad, or just different?
What *is* your favorite high end reverb box and why?
Based on what I currrently have, what would *you* get and why?

My Powercore is only the PCI, so I cant use the newer VSS3, Nonlin, etc... and I'm out of PCI slots anyway.

I've got a few "decent" units... H3000, H949, PCM81, PCM90, MPX100, LXP1, LXP5, Rev7, SDE1000.

Different strokes for different folks... but I find that I'm always looking for the right paintbrush to work the pallet... I can't say I have a real "Go To" verb... well yes I can... the Eventide. It may not be perfect for EVERYTHING, but it will work on everything. I guess if I had to dump all the others... I'd keep the H3000.

Since the introduction of the 960L, I've been keeping an eye out for 300's and 480's. I want a couple more H3000's, a 42, another 949 and at least a D-Two and/or preferably a 2290. I'd GLADLY sacrifice studio space for an EMT, too!

IMHO, can't have too many units...

There is a night and day difference between the Eventide H3000 series and any of the newer Eventides including the sound of their reverbs. Eventide is WAY more than just a reverb box.

The DP/4 is killer. Just found myself a DP/4+!

Good lord that's been 6 years ago. What are ya waitin' fer?

300s are not that great. Personally, I wouldn't buy any Lexicon anything, because Harman has managed to fend off all of the original Lexicon designers/programmers, and all but a few knowledgable people that were not involved with that roll-out. The new single space Eventide thing is good. Used that. Have their plugs and love them. It is hard to beat a 3000 for live work, but I would not buy one for the verb. That wasn't it's strong point.

I'm thinking about buying an Eventide. It's hard to decide without trying one out. But I have found that, at a certian level of quality. It's all pretty good. After that it's a matter of opinion. Like how I work with guys who love Rush. Me I don't. But that's an opinion.
