Hi all,
I was wanting to build some large and small diaphragm true condenser microphones (no electret). Anybody know where i can buy the capusles? It would be nice to find capsules from actual good mics like akg 414, shur sm81 etc. Oh yeah, I am in the US but wouldn't mind paying international shipping if the price was right. Thanks!

Hi Aphid,
I had good luck with a large diameter capsule from John Peluso Homepage . Or Blue You'll find as you look around that it's very difficult to get real AKG or Neumann capsules here, apparently more difficult than for Jakob in Europe. AKG USA will only install them in a repair job at their shop. I think you can get replacement Neumann capsules but they're VERY expensive. Rebuilt capsules are hit-or-miss, I think. You could get lucky, but be careful.
Hope this helps,
Seth

thanks for the links jrmintz! any particular capsule you would recomend?
jakob. how would i get a hold of companys? do you know of any online ordering? thanks!
No online ordering as far as I know - simply call your local distributor.
another option is oktava-- they sell the small diaphragm condenser capsules as a seperate unit. i bought a matched pair on ebay for $50 !
i don't know about their large diagragm mics, but these oktavas are a great place to start.

Aphid,
Check out this thread. There has been a lot of discussion here about capsules.
