Setting Up A 64 Bit system

I have a AMD 2 duel x64 3800 3 gig ram with XP Pro 64 Edition and every thing I do on it is a battle.
I have spent days in the shop with a tech trying things like more ram 550 watt power supply new drives and performance test upon performance test and ya know, I cant seem to find where the problem is.
My guess is drivers but since I don't know whats wrong I am going to continue playing with it and maybe someone will post something about 64 bit amd with the windows XP Pro 64 bit Edition that will click as an area that I haven't thought of.

Sooo I'm not really asking a question but hoping that anyone with a 64 bit machine will share their experiences

you didnt really tell us whats wrong with your system.

A battle? Don't you mean a duel?

The current service pack level of WIN XP64 running on a dual AMD system can be a risky combination. Since you don't say what's the matter, I'm guessing your problem is device drivers. Don't try to load 32-bit device drivers that aren't approved for XP64.

Well It seems to be low on power, or sluggish. Its a new machine so there is not a lot of clutter.

I thought a AMD 2 duel x 64 3800 with 3 gig would be a lot stronger then my 2.6 hyper threading Intel but it seems at times to have less power.

Example; running sonar 6 with 7 tracks and 3 to 5 vst fx on each can lock it up. Of coarse I am running it in 64 bit mode.

I bumped it up to 3 gig and ran extreme memory stick test to see if there was a bad stick of ram, but all are good.
I then thought that I might need a larger power supply as it blue screened twice, so I went from a 440 to a 550 watt power sup. and it hasn't blue screened since.

I am using windows xp pro 64 edition and on this PC there is a programx files(for 32 bit) and a program files for 64 bit.
Now the way I understand it is windows is to atomaticaly flow between the two. Sonar uses fx-teleport to automate that process also, as far as I know. It seems like it could be a software conflict but the log files are clear. I am starting to wonder if I have a bad processor. I should have never went with the 3800 but it was in stock and a little cheeper and an extra two seconds processing a wave file in t-rack is not an issue.

If you guys want more info please just ask.

just for the record.

the asus mother board M2N-E comes with a old bios that is full of clitches.

when the updated bios is loaded everything runs super fast and smoooooooth.

one of the tell tail signs are the amount of ram you installed is not all
showing up. I had 4 1 gig sticks and it showed 3.5.

soooooo, I guess one should always check up on the manufature for updates
