A lot of the classic neve designs implemented the phase reverse after the output transformer. Im not excatly sure why but I would guess that the stronger line level signal is a safer signal to switch than the mic level signal.
Is there any drawback in adding phase reverse on the output of a mic preamp, after the output transformer?

No real problems with a reverse on the output. Some might argue that it will not get the advantage of any asymmetry in the pre-amp. This is well open for discussion. Any asymmetry in the pre stage can have an effect on the signal and by reversing the phase at the input is is said that it will sound different. I like this theory but be warned that is is probably going to be very subtle.
Disadvantages are that anything at the front end of the pre will have an effect on signal to noise and generally could be very noisy as you switch.
