my teacher was suggesting that I should get a pair of Grado SR80's?
http://www.goodcans.com/ListeningStation/itemgrado-sr80.html
Anyone of heard of this type of headphone brand. He said they are amazing headphones for the $95 price tag. However they are very delicate. They are open ear, and he said if you want to do mixing and editing, open ear are the way to go. Anyone else agree.
I was also looking at the HD 280's and the Sony MDR7506's. However these are closed ear and not open. |

Baderup:
Because DaveDog and I trashed your Mom's church's amp to you, I feel like maybe I owe you one . There have been too many posts regarding this type of question, it gets real tiresome to re-hash. So here you go:
You don't mix on headphones. Period. Phones are OK for remotes, and God knows I've used them during tracking sessions to find little problems (squeaks, hums, etc, etc). But not to mix with, because those mixes will not translate well to other systems, for a guzillion reasons I don't want to re-hash. And I don't edit through phones, but lots of people do.
Your teacher is right about Grados. They are great-sounding headphones, and the only ones I use AT HOME for listening. I use the almighty Sennheiser HD280 in the studio, and I have a pair of Sony 7506 to kick and throw on live sound gigs.
If I had just $100 for 'phones, I think that I'd go with the 280.IMHO. |

haha alright moonbaby, yeah ive tried the search feature for this forum and i might be doing it wrong, cuz i seem not to get the right results back.
My rig is (or will be this summer) a laptop, recording on the go rig, so headphones will have to suffice until i can bring my rig home and take time to setup it up and get some monitors.
my friend just got the mdr7056's and they are extremely comfortable. |

Perfectly understandable. Comfort is a BIG deal in a laptop situation. The Sonys are the toughest to break, so they should serve you well. |

As a point of defense for Baderup99 and a very gentle nudge to the mods, "headphones" and "monitors" may be two of the most common topics on the board, but they are also two of the hardest topics on which to narrow a search. |

I own all three of the headphones you mention. The Sonys are the least accurate and the Grados are the most.
The Grados are a bit delicate but it's never bothered me. |

Howdy. I'm at OU too. Eddie does seem to love those damn grados, but i really can't stand them. It's also annoying as hell in labs when people are working with Open Ears on. Some of the kids here are deaf and have them just cranked. I can hear them over my Closed AKG's.
Who is this by the wa?
