Wave Files. Or samples. I trigger wavs mostly. I use Reason a lot. I have a libary of drums from my own recordings that I sample and work into songs. |

Yep, could be MIDI-triggered samples of some format loaded into a software drum kit like DFH.
Or, some people use loops, which contain x# of bars for a phrase that can usually be mainpulated in some ways. String a bunch together, with different loops in parts (breaks, turnarounds, ride replacing hi-hat, etc.), and you have drum tracks. Those loop libraries may contain individual samples that can be used in a software drum kit, and MIDI-triggered.
I'm not good with loops. I'm more of a linear constructionist, and like to have control over each individual event. May be more work, but it's also more tweakable...at least to me.
Since I have no room for real drums, MIDI drums are the one thing I MUST use in nearly everything I do. (Plus, the neighbors appreciate it).
I've gotten fairly good at conjouring up drum tracks that sound almost real...or so I'm told.

we've used loops some but they sound electronic.
what if u have a straight ahead rock song, say u want the 80s big drums...or wanna get Rush-ish...
has anyone used any of the sample packs like DFH in this way?
Id love to hear what youve done with it...
check my page for our canned drums... |

I use DFHS and I love it.. All samples are real and if you program them in midi u can use all the randomize ans alternet hits and adjust the mic positions you cant tell its a program.. u can also trigger them from any digital set or drum machine with midi out.... |
