Hi guys, how are things going so far?
Being a member in this forum for quite a while, I know that some of you guys want to know how this and that was recorded or produced, so here is a little piece of info how this one was done. The text to this music is German, don't care about it. More interesting is the short chain of equipment that was used to produce that. It is one of those examples that really show that it is more important to squeeze out what you have and to use your talent and creativity.
This one was recorded and mixed in the box using Neumann KM88 for vocals in the first song, the +1 octave vocal track in the back was recorded with a Neumann U87Ai, the vocals on the second track were recorded with the U87Ai, preamp used was AmekDMCL for vox, bass and guitar, the quitar effects were done by the voxengo boogex plug-in, additional drums on track two were recorded with two KM88 in XY, Cubase SX 2 was the editing application on which the final mixdown was done. On master there was just a squirt of Waves Linear Phase and the L2 on -1dBFS. No compressor at all.
The video was shot using a Sony FX-1/HDV1080i50, edited on Final Cut Pro. The quality of the original material, picture and soundwise is way better than that what you can see and hear on youtube.

Looks like the LSD, cemetery scene in Easy Rider! With a sideways soundtrack! Cool. Look! A chicken! Want to ride bikes?
Nickel diaphragm KM88! Haven't seen one of those for a while. Quite a bright microphone. I don't own one and haven't used once since the 1980s. Not what I would call a go to mic.
Too old-fashioned to really enjoy that kind of avant-garde stuff.

Easy Rider? Could be...
But I like the KM88. I simply adore the KM88! I have heard lots of mics so far and this thing has that certain something. Actually, I wouldn't buy it if I didn't have it, but it definitely generates quite a good special and unique sound. But it's just my two cents. |

Oh yeah, it is! Those nickel diaphragms make it sound different from any other
Really cool and honky on baritone sax. And really quite a specialized sound. I find it a more brutal sound than the warm sound of their other microphones. I think others do also?
I like sexy microphones best
