My Røde NT2 has finished its metamorphosis into a G7.
Here you can see a few pictures: http://www.digital-synthologie.de/rode_nt2/index.html

If I have the money I will buy a good capsule for it. The original Røde capsule has a very much hyped high end.

No, it sounds as bad as the NT2, but with some tube sound added.
But it's not the fault of the G7, it's the fault of the capsule. Therefore I will replace the capsule too.

I would reverse the tube. Place the pin end of the tube as close to the capsule as possable. Try to mount the grid pin tube socket lead in the air, also connect the grid end of the grid resistor in the air. What I mean any part of the circuit that is at the High z part of the circuit should not touch the pcb (imo). Some microhones use insulated turrets as mounting points

I often drop the socket in a container of alcohol(>91%) to remove anything around the grid connection, This is if I use a socket.

In one mod of a microphone I did, I must have touched the input cap and left some finger oils etc. The microphone sounded funny no lows etc. it turned out that the leakage across the cap body was causing a loss of lows. I often pick up and handle the input cap and 1G resistors by the leads with pliers.

I just modded my NT1000. I upgraded 7 caps. Stock I could not stand the "edge", modded it sounds OK to good depending on the voice. The capsule might not be the problem it could be the Grill. The MXL2001 and V67 seem to have the same circuit and transformer: However the V67 sounds way better stock than the 2001.

Is the NT2 a transformer or transformerless circuit? Could you take a closeup of the board. I have not been inside a NT2 yet.

    Nice work, Michael!

That is as simple as it can be done.

I've added a link to you from the G7-page

    Michael

The first picture looks to be the DC to DC converter circuit for the capsule 40V? The MXL1006, Nady 950 and SP C1 have a DC to DC converter circuit that looks something like that.

Does the other PCB have 1 fet 2sk170 and two pnp transistors? If so it might be the same type circuit as the MXL1006.

Thanks for the pictures. The circuit looks to be the "standard" china transformerless one.
