Antiques you say. I was at a Foley stage in Burbank about a month ago. They were showing how they did the sounds for "Men in Trees" and they were locking up to....um...(cough)...
3/4 in!
I got a request from a producer to transfer some wav files to DA-88 since the place in California he was doing the work for ONLY used DA-88s for their mixdowns. In this day and age it is hard to believe but this was only last spring. I am glad we decided to hold on to our DA-88 - for what they were selling for it was a no brainer. Close to $4000 for a new machine with all the goodies but the used market was offering less than $400.
I wish I had all the money back I have lost in the past from equipment that was "must have" but two years later no one wanted it and we either sold it a considerable loss or tossed it. Oh well such is life in audio.
