lacking that kick...

hey all, i really love this site. i could get free insights on how to work w/ DAW to help expand creativity. im still new to this so i hope u guys dont mind my q's. i have recently found the potential of daw's to make quality music. i use fruity loops with all the sliced beats n stuff. and use adobe audition n audacity as my editing progs.

question is simple, how come what i hear in my editing program is louder than than my actual mixdown on MP3 format or wav? i am content with the outcome of my mix in the program but when it renders to mp3, n i play it in my player, it sounds like it doesnt have the right kick as it does w pros. it could be my setup for it s just plain stock laptop n headphones.

my instincts told me that maybe i should just boost the master up, but im not sure if thats such a good idea..i dunno

pls help any relevant advice would be appreciated

Welcome dlostboy, it could be a few things. Can you describe your monitoring set up a bit more, what levels are on your meters? It not always a good idea to trust your visual meters, but it may give us a starting point. Sometime windows 2000 and XP do a fixed normalization on CD burners, which reduces the output level. This can be turned off under the:

Start -> Run ->services.msc.
I found on one machine Turing off IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service helped remove this issue.
