Hi all,
I want to convert a walk in closet to a sound booth for vocal recording. My deal is I want to keep sound from escaping the room, so that I can sing while my son naps or whatever. Or so people can't hear me when I mess up
It's a 5x10 space with concrete behind one wall, a bathroom on the other door wall, and a dropped ceiling. It's in the basement, hence the concrete wall (it's covered by aluminum studded sheetrock wall).
What's the cheapest, safest idea to make this relatively sound absorbing? I was thinking foam panels on the dropped ceiling, but what type? I need a door on it, but no room for a 'real' door, only probably a cheap folding one would fit, so I guess I'd need to have a panel, also foam covered? to cover the closed door with?
Thanks for any ideas. We have little close to zero dollars to spend for this, fun, huh?

What is above the ceiling tiles?
Are the walls of this existing closet insulated in any way? Are they sheetrocked already, both sides?

What does that mean....what is a real door? A solid door? A door larger then 24" wide? If you do everything right in this proposed iso area and install a "bi-fold" door, you just introduced the weakest link:)
Wadda you think?

stuffing the area above the ceiling tiles with big thick blankets will probably help a lot if you dont want to spend anything. overall using multiple thick blankets on every wall of the closet and door might help a bit... |
