hi everyone! , i'm building the gyraf 1176, thanks jakob , the thing is that i live in argentina and it's impossible to get the output xformer.
i wonder if i could use an UTC A-20 that i already have.

UTC A-20:
Aplication: mixing, matching.
Primary imp. ohms: 50,125/150,200/250,333 500/600
Unbal DC: 0
Secondary imp. ohms: 50,125/150,200/250,333 500/600
+/-2 DB from: 10-50.000
Pri res ohms: 64
Max level dbm: +15
Max level MW: 30
high electrostatic shielding

it can be used as a 600/600, this means it may work?
i don't know the turn ratios for the UTC A-20.
i have other UTCs LS and A series.
it's possible to use an op instead of the tranny as output?
but if i can't i will buy the lundahls, when i can...

about the meters, can't get the sifam here :( , but, i have 2 large 60's westones like the ones in the fairchild but, i don't think all the VU meters are the same, so what specs the meter have to be?

and just thinking...is it possible to use an input xformer as the UTC LS-10, LS-12X, A-10 in this solid state designs?

by the way i'm finishing 6 RCA BC2B micpres build with UTC LS-10X as input, 12AX7 , LS-50 as output, fixed gain, and sounds soooo nice!

thankyou, from argentina.....ezequiel

I think the G1176 is happy to work withou trafos, so get the project operational and then experiment with trafos.

A VU meter is a VU meter.
I know many cheap UV meters are just standard meters with a scale.

You all need to have a basic passive VU meter that you know and trust in a box to use as a test device and for experimenting. see my site.

You use this meter that you already know, to refer to, when testing a new meter. A normal VU meter should just drop straight into this circuit with the minimum of adjustment.

Ezequiel,

The UTC A-20 should work fine - just wire it 600:600.

the 5M is not an audio critical pot as far as i can tell, so you *could* buy a bunch of 1M or 2M or whatever you can get hold of pots, take them to bits, and sand the trace down with steel wool until it measures right! :D (i say a few cos you'd probably munt some figuring out how to do it)

now *that* would be DIY. not necessarily accurate scale, but definately DIY. they'd probably need to be like those 16mm or 24mm non-sealed ones.
