Good morning everyone.

I am thinking of going to sign to Berklee online Music school and enroll next january for mixing and mastering.

the thing is that i am wondering if I should rather go to the advanced mixing and mastering class?

I have some experience in pro tools and mixing, but no idea about mastering!

Can you help me choose the right one for me?

bigmac -

I would definitely get in touch with Berklee and see what their academic advisors and (preferably) the teachers of the courses say. An online school is only as good as the distance communications skills of everyone involved. This is a chance to see how good a job they do. Do they ask intelligent questions about your experience? Do they give clear advice? Do they respond promptly? Do they respond to your individual situation or just point you to canned responses that don't apply?

I have been contacting the student adviser by e-mail and it has helped me pretty much. When I asked if I am ready for the advanced level the adviser asked me about my production background and now I'm waiting for his reply to that.

Is there anybody here who has taken either one of these courses?

While I have not taken one of Berklee's courses, the fact that they taught them was a big factor in my choosing PT as my first DAW. I figured if I needed help, they would be a good option. While I have not taken any of their courses, I have taught advanced mathematics courses using distance learning and online methods. It is hard and expensive. The Berklee courses look good to me on the surface. They have clearly put a lot of thought and money into them. It takes more than the things I have seen - a good teacher (who is good at using the technology) and a good support system - but they have no obvious defects to ame.

Since I have not seen the whole course, I can't make a recommendation, but everything I've seen looks good. Keep talking to them and please report back.

Another thought - will they give you access to the threads of a current (or past) class? Probably the best thing about most online classes is the interaction with other students. If I were teaching this type of course I'd be trying to get 20 people tearing apart each others mixes in a constructive way.
If you can see them doing that in a current class, it would be worth the money to take the class youself.
