Does anybody knows the tubes in the EAR 660's line stage?

It semes like a Fairchild 660 with a solid state control amp.

Anybody tried it? compared it to the Fairchild?

No... I heard it from my computer... and the little voices, of course!

Oh yeah, I have used it on a few occasions. VERY nice indeed (well it should be at that price). Not sure what else to say apart from if you can afford one get it! Haven't used a real Fairchild so I can't comment on that. I know that the entire path in the EAR is valve, with all side-chain duties being delegated to various discrete / i.c components.

If you've got the corn, get yerself a great Christmas present!

    ? 7ES8 is the same as PCC189, isn't it?

That is the tube I use in the G10 also.

Yes it is. The #ES8 family includes a 4V, 5V, 6V, and 7V versions. I've seen XCC189, ECC189 and PCC189 types from Europe too. This is the type used by Pendulm Audio also. The designer claims it behaves very much like a 6386 in his circuit in a post he made on rec.audio.pro some time ago.

    Hi Henrik,

Anytime! You're very welcome if you get around this area some day.

In your part of the world - Copenhagen - the G10 can also be heard in several studios and mastering suites; e.g. SDC/Dandisk (Lehnert K.), Peter Mark's recording, Jørgen Knub's, and Thomas Li's studios.
